Harrison-Stein, PC filed the Receiver’s Second Interim Report today in the District of Columbia v. Casa Ruby, Inc. In the court filing, the Receiver reports that it has secured all important documents and returned all leased properties to the landlords. It raises concerns about the lack of any official records of business conducted by the Board of Directors.
The Receiver also provides the results of a partial review of Casa Ruby’s accounting records – noting that the organization’s accounting firm repeatedly raised concerns about the Casa Ruby’s failure to remit payroll taxes on time, the growing compensation of the organization’s officers and directors, and a general lack of documentation to justify expenditures. In 2021, the firm asked about $420,000 in large cash transactions – including two $100,000 counter withdrawals less than eight days apart in April.
